In 2009, Belinda Buchanan went to Mombasa, Kenya to volunteer with drug addicted street children, orphans and abandoned children. After many years of volunteering Belinda started up an orphanage and then later merged that orphanage with Mama Anne Children’s Home, a home registered and approved by the Children’s Department in Kenya and in desperate need of help. Through Hope Child Africa, all the children at Mama Anne’s Children’s Home are sponsored and cared for. Belinda makes annual visits to Kenya to oversee the operation of the children’s home and ensures that all needs for the children are met.
Belinda’s experience in Kenya has revealed that it’s clear to see that many children live without basic needs like regular nutritious meals, education, and adequate care and shelter. Belinda has spent a lot of time touring the slums and meeting the various children and families in need. Belinda made a decision to assist the children living in poverty, to make a difference in their lives.
Hope Child Africa now assists abandoned children in Mombasa, Kenya. The have been abandoned, left on the streets to fend for themselves, are total orphans, have drug addicted parents or extremely sick parents who are not capable of parenting.
The on-going needs continue to grow and special occasions continue to arise. The cost of the economy is growing and the key now is sustainability. It’s time now to reach out. The communities surrounding the orphanages have bursting needs for children living in poverty, we would like to assist the growth of the orphanages we support and are looking at new ways to receive funding in order to suitably meet the growing needs. We encourages those who would like to do some fundraising for what we believe is an amazing cause.
100% of the money raised by Hope Child Africa goes directly towards the growth of the Projects we are working with in Mombasa, Kenya. Our amazing Team of people at Hope Child Africa are volunteers and assist Hope Child Africa because of their passion to make positive change.
The orphanages we work with are registered organisations in Kenya and Hope Child Africa Ltd is a registered non-profit organisation in Australia.
Belinda arrived back to her homeland, Australia, after being away for 3 years in January 2012 and immediately decided to register a charitable organisation which will realise the full potential of growing needs of the orphanage and the surrounding poverty stricken community of Mombasa.
In April 2012, Ben Elbaum, Bill Karvela and Margaret Tamkin joined as Board Members and Hope Child Africa was registered.
